Secondary Curriculum
This webpage has been developed in an effort to communicate some of Lancaster City School's secondary (grades 6-12) efforts towards improving our methods of instruction in order to increase student achievement.
The following is a short list of initiatives that our secondary schools (Lancaster High School, General Sherman Junior High, Thomas Ewing Junior High) will be implementing for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year:
- Multiple data sources will be utilized to closely examine and monitor student proficiency levels relative to Ohio's Academic Content Standards. This data will guide our teacher's instructional methods. Some of the assessments that will be analyzed are the following: district administered short-cycle and formative assessments, Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA, grades 6-8), Ohio Graduation Test (OGT, grades 10-12), ACT (high school), SAT (high school), IOWA/CoGAT (grade 7).
- Lancaster City Schools has targeted several high-yield, research based instructional strategies in order to improve student achievement. These specific methods were collaboratively identified via the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP). All teachers, grades K-12, will receive district driven professional development for these techniques as outlined in the district professional development plan.
- District created short-cycle and formative assessments will continue to be administered in order to monitor student proficiency levels and rate of improvement in relation to Ohio's Academic Content Standards.
